This past weekend, the Aggies kicked off the start of the ice hockey season with a bang against San Francisco State University. A team full of fresh faces, UC Davis looked to get the season off to a strong start and did not disappoint.
Right off the bat, the game swung in the Aggies' favor. With lots of offensive talent highlighting the roster, the Aggies scored early and often, netting 8 goals in the first period to SFSU's one. This included a hat trick by senior Sam Lehr, who put 3 away in under 8 minutes. The UC Davis defense held strong as well, limiting the Gators to under 5 shots in the first period.
The second period did not see the Aggies slow down at all. Rookie Kaz Machida scored a hat trick and rookie Kyle McNeil scored his first goal as an Aggie as well. Goaltender Michael Bodamer made his Aggie debut in the second period, stopping 7 of 8 shots to finish off the game.
Overall, it was a strong indicator of where the team will be heading this season. This upcoming weekend, the Aggies will travel to Oakland to take on UC Berkeley in an attempt to begin the season on a roll.
