It was an exciting weekend for the Aggies, who, coming off of a victory against Chapman University, would face UCSD the next night. However, the Aggies were plagued with injuries, and the lack of firepower was present from the start. UCSD would score quickly and UCD would not find a response, shutting down the Aggie offense. To top that off, rookie Kaz Machida would get injured in the second period and not return for the remainder of the weekend. Goaltender Michael Bodamer was left to dry as the Aggies fell to UCSD 3-9 in the late Saturday game.
After a poor outing, UC Davis had to shake it off--the next game would be at noon the next day in Valencia. The few hours of sleep combined with the long drive would show in the first period against College of the Canyons, who would take a 3-0 lead in the first period. However, the Aggies were inspired to redeem themselves. In the second period, Gordon Dickson led the charge as Davis racked up 5 goals to end the second period up 5-4.
The mood would remain tense for the rest of the game, with CoC scoring a tying goal only 30 seconds into the final frame. Then, for the next 17 minutes, both sides would push hard, with neither team yielding an inch. Goaltender Niklas Braun locked it down for the Aggies, and after a loose puch found itself in CoC's zone with an assist from Hanna Hone, Gordon Dickson wasted no time scoring the go ahead goal to make it 6-5. The Aggies would hold back a 6-4, and a last second shot, to get the victory. Goaltender Niklas Braun had 42 saves on the night.
It was the most successful road trip UC Davis has had in 3 years, and it was one to behold.
